1963 VW Restoration

It’s not everyday a customer brings along 1966 split screen VW multi-window bus that needs complete restoration.

It was originally green but the loving owner fancied something different for the restoration – cool white and blue!

Besides the colour change, the body needed a lot of metal work replacing. We went about slowly & methodically cutting out the rotten metal and replaced most of the bottom half of the fifty year old bus!

Once all the metal perfectly shaped and the body solid, we went about prepping the body for a full respray in the new two tone colour scheme. This takes days, sometimes, weeks of sanding and prep work.

As you can see by the photos – most of the 1966 VW bus shell needed attention before primer then paint.

It wasn’t just the exterior body that needed attention. We replaced chassis rails and inner sills too, ensuring that the structure was safe and sound too.

It was a really satisfying project to take on and we’re over the moon with how this 1966 VW Splitscreen Bus turned out!
